In 1870 Thomas Warburton and his wife Ellen set up a small grocery shop in Blackburn Road, Bolton with the financial backing of his brother, George.
In 1876, Ellen, who was an excellent cook, suggested that they bake some bread and offer it for sale.
From these humble beginnings, and Ellen Warburton's now famed loaves and flour cakes‚ the business took root.
The fifth generation of the Warburton family are now in place and are dedicated to continuing the Warburton family tradition of baking, inherited over the past 132 years.
One thing hasn't changed and that is the founding principle on which the business has been built.
As Thomas Warburton said in 1876
"This is a family company selling traditionally baked bread with a freshness and quality you really can taste."
Our goal is to ensure that important values such as quality, freshness, and service are delivered to our consumers in the 21st Century. For us this isn't just a business. It's a way of life.
